Art for Fun! Studio and Gallery first opened it’s doors in 2005 and is owned and operated by Barbara Becker.
At Art for Fun! Studio and Gallery, there is no need to wait to join an introductory course. Classes sizes are small so all students receive one-on-one instruction and work in different mediums.
About Barbara
Barbara Becker was born and raised in South Africa, where she received her Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education with a Master’s Degree in Gifted and Remedial Education.
Barbara immigrated to the United States in 1984. In 1987 she founded the Solomon Schechter Day School in Phoenix, where she was a teacher and the principal. She was always interested in art and began taking classes in 1994. The following year she began teaching art at the Solomon Schechter Day School, later known as the King David School, and the Beth El Center for Early Childhood. At the request of some parents of her students, she created an art class for adults. This sparked a new passion for her and prompted her to open her business, Art for Fun! Studio and Gallery in 2005.
Barbara’s love of art is influenced by ethnic and Judaic art. Her travels to Africa, South East Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Australia, South America, Central America and Canada nourish and inspire her creativity.
Barbara continues to develop and grow as an artist by taking art classes around the country. She won 2nd place in the CBS International Dichroic Glass Competition in 2012 for her “Jerusalem Wall” which was commissioned by Beth El Congregation in Phoenix. The “Jerusalem Wall” has been featured in magazines, a calendar and a glass art catalogue.
For Barbara, it is all about the rewards of teaching – the joy of teaching others to explore and create art, as well as to find peace and calm in the therapeutic nature of art. This is reflected in the atmosphere of the studio.
